Objective

To enter your surroundings with a heightened sense of awareness, in order to read the hidden codes and graphic signals that accumulate around us, and translate this into a series of textile designs that explain your perspective of the environment.

Techniques

Involve the following techniques in both your research and final printed design work: photography, found imagery, computer graphics, collage, painting, drawing, printing, etc.

Points to observe

When actively reading the symbols in your surroundings, try to make a conscious connection between the different images you collect.

What are you looking at?

Surface texture, graphics, text, layered information, graffiti, authoritative signs, music posters, advertising.

Collect as much information as you can and seperate into areas of interest. Build a narritive, a sequence of events or a concept from your collection.

Restlessness, cynicism, escapism, anti-authority, freedom.

Collect fabrics that are relevant, paying careful attention to surface treatment. Make the texture and feel of the fabric reflect your developing ideas.
