I chose several pages out of vogue to investigate what sort of contrast I found relevant to my work in 'current' fashion. The notes say: 'Contrast between business wear (coat) with casual (t-shirt and jeans) and sports (trainers) wear. More traditional (midi skirt) against contemporary (boots) style. Again casual outfit paired with more formal shoes and stylised hat.'
Page 32 features more train tickets and a few lefthanded drawing exercises. I wrote about it: 'I did this exercise to really play up the sense of do-it-yourself I talked about in relation to teenagers and young people's restraint work-arounds when it comes to style and clothes. Also refer back to the note on nostalgia and childhood as an inspiration.'
Page 33 is a collage of images, drawings, photographs and prints. Page 34 is a timed illustration exercise, using a selection of watercolour pastels, coloured pencils and alcohol markers, chosen at random. I started at five minutes and reduced down to two. I found the images on an excellent blog of London street photography called Fashionfilosofy on Blogspot. My note says: 'This exercise was mostly to push myself to capture the line of human form under time restraints. Also to challenge myself to translate a photograph's capture of fabrics to paper in limited mediums.'
